What does an artery/arteriole do?
A
Carry oxygenated blood away from heart to body tissues(apart from pulmonary artery. Carries deoxygenated to lungs)
Arterioles link arteries and capillaries

What do artery walls contain?
A
Elastic fibres- withstand high blood pressure+stretch n recoil. LOTS OF
Collagen- limits stretch LOTS OF
Smooth muscle- some, not much contraction needed

What do arterioles contain?
A
More smooth muscle+less elastin than arteries as there is less pulse surge. Can constrict+dilate to control blood flow to organs.
Arteriole vasoconstriction=limits blood to organs
Arteriole vasodilation= easier blood flow to capillary bed
