Blood Supply Of Upper Limb Flashcards
Arterial supply of UL begins with…
Axillary aretery (which is from subclavian artery)
When does subclavian artery become the Axillary artery?
When it crosses lateral border of first rib
Axillary artery changes distally into what artery?
Brachial artery
When does Axillary artery become brachial artery?
When it crosses inferior border of teres major
At what region does the brachial artery divide
Elbow region
What does the brachial artery divide into?
Ulnar and radial artery
The ulnar and radial artery anastomose in where and as what?
In palm as superficial and deep palmar arches
Axillary supplies what regions?
Shoulder and pectoral region
Superficial veins communicate with deep veins through
Perforating veins
Describe route of cephalic vein
From DORSAL venous network of hand, starts along lateral border of hand and continues at the lateral forearm and around the elbow region communicates with median cubital vein which joins the basilic vein.
Cephalic vein continues superiority between deltoid and pectoral groove which it the enters clavipectoral triangle. It pierced the costacoracoid membrane, joining the Axillary vein finally
What structures does the Cephalic vein pass through and pierce in order to join Axillary vein
Passes through deltopectoral groove, enters clavipectoral triangle and pierced costacoracoid membrane (of clavipectoral fascia)
Where and what does the basilic vein pierce?
Pierces the brachial fascia
Describe route of basilic vein
From DORSAL venous network, runs medially along forearm and inferiorly along arm. Passes deeply near middle and inferior thirds of arm to pierce brachial fascia, then runs parallel with BRACHIAL ARTERY and MEDIAL CUTANEOUS NERVE of forearm, to the axilla where it merges with accompanying veins
Is Median antebrachial vein different from median cubical vein?
Yes it is
median antebrachial vein turns to median cubical vein at cubical fossa (distal to prox.)
What is vein is a highly variable vein
Median antebrachial vein
Describe route of median antebrachial vein
Starts from the dorsun of the thumb, curves at the lateral side of the wrist, and ascends at MIDDLE of anterior aspect of forearm and sometimes divides into median basilic which joins basilic vein and median Cephalic which joins Cephalic vein.
What are the superficial veins of upper limb?
Cephalic vein
Basilic vein
Median antebrachial vein
Mention some deep veins
Note that deep veins are named after the arteries they accompany
All branches of Axillary vein
Brachial vein
(Upper end of basilic vein)
Radial and ulnar veins
Deep palmar arch
Mention the 5 SUPERFICIAL lymphatic drainage of upper limb
Humeral (lateral) lymph nodes
Subscapular lymph nodes
pectoral lymph nodes
Central lymph nodes
Apical lymph nodes
