What does the fire detection system monitor?
The AMAD, APU, and engine bays for fires or overheat conditions.
What does the fire detection system provide the pilot?
Audible and visual warnings of the fire or overheat conditions.
What does the fire extinguishing system do?
Uses a single fire extinguisher tank with three distribution lines, one for the APU and one for each of the engine/AMAD bays. The system is a one shot, one bay system.
What does DBFSS stand for?
Dry Bay Fire Suppression System
Is the DBFSS only installed in the F/A-18E/F aircraft?
Yes
What does the DBFSS do?
Suppresses fire associated with ballistic damage to the aircraft before a significant fire occurs.
How does the DBFSS work?
Performs without pilot action; consists of 14 optical fire detectors, 6 dry bay extinguishers and a fire suppression control alarm.
