What is the hangar designed to provide?
An environmentally protected area to protect the aircraft from the elements

- Type 1

Primarily used for carrier aircraft
235 ft W x 85 ft Deep
Specs of a Type 2 Hangar
Primarily used for USMC aviation
325ft W x 119ft Deep
Specs of a Type 3 Hangar
Used for land based & large transport aircraft
165ft W x 165ft Deep
What items are required for shore based hangars? (5)
- Painted red lines to divide the hangars from the workcenters
- CO2 bottles on bulkhead above the deck
- Electrical systems to provide aircraft with power
- Manual or automatic operating hangar doors
- Grounding points that provide a 10 ohm or less to ground
What are the hangar protection requirements for the protection of the aircraft? (5)
- Low level AFFF system
- Overhead sprinkler system to extinguish building fire as well as the aircraft
- Optical detection system to activate AFFF system
- Drainage system
- Draft curtains, to prevent cooling to sprinklers, allowing earlier detection to flames
What is the estimated cost for a false activation of the extinguishing system?
