Block 14 Fundamentals of Flight Flashcards
What is motion?
The act, or process of changing place or position. Motion is movement
Acceleration
Rate of change of the speed and or the velocity of matter with time.
Speed
Rate of movement in terms of distance measured in an allotted amount of time.
Velocity
The quickness or speed of an object in a given time and direction
Force
Something that causes a change in the motion of an object.
Inertia
The willingness of an object to remain at rest or to continue in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Linear Motion
When all of a body moves in a line (straight or curved) with all parts moving in the same direction
Angular motion
When a body or part of it moves in a circle (or part of) about a point called the axis of rotation.
General motion
A combination of linear and angular motion.
Newton’s First Law (Inertia)
An object at rest will remain at rest, or an object in motion will continue at the same speed and in the same direction until acted up an outside force.
Newton’s Second Law (Force)
If an object moving with uniform speed is acted upon by an external force, the change of motion, or acceleration will be directly proportional to the amount of force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object being moved.
Newton’s Third Law (action and reaction)
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Bernoullis principle
When a fluid flowing through a tube reaches a constriction or narrowing of the tube, the speed increases and pressure decreases
Lift
The force that acts in an upward direction, to support the aircraft in the air.
Weight
The force of gravity acting downward on the aircraft and everything on the aircraft
