418 Right Post Thorax: Multiple eccrine spiradenomas

Q

What is bottle 414?

A

**414 Skin: Chondroid syringoma
**Chondroid syringoma represents the cutaneous counterpart of mixed tumor (pleomorphic adenoma) of salivary glands, therefore it is also termed “mixed tumour of the skin.” It is generally accepted that there are both eccrine and apocrine variants of mixed tumors of skin. Malignant chondroid syringoma is a malignant eccrine neoplasm that is very rarely encountered in radio-pathological and clinical practice. Unlike the benign variety which occurs most often on the head and neck, malignant chondroid syringomas are most often found on the trunk and extremities. The usual presentation is that of an asymptomatic slow-growing mass in the region of head or neck.

Q

What is bottle 439 Breast?

A

439 Breast: Lipoma

Gross Features: Spindle cell/pleomorphic lipomas are usually well-circumscribed, solitary nodules that are easily demarcated from the surrounding subcutaneous tissues (as seen in this case). Their gross appearance depends upon the relative proportion of mature adipose tissue and spindle cell areas.

Some tumors are composed largely of mature adipose tissue with small foci of spindle or pleomorphic cells. They resemble ordinary lipomas with scattered grey-white gelatinous or firm areas corresponding to the spindle cell component. Other cases are devoid of fat and are predominantly or entirely composed of spindle/pleomorphic cells (fat-free spindle cell lipomas). They appear grey-white with gelatinous or firm consistency.

Q

What is bottle 352 Right thigh?

A

**352 Right thigh: Liposarcoma
**
This specimen is from a 36 y/o male who presented with a mass involving his right upper thigh and gluteal region. The specimen measured 20 x 15 x 15 cm and had yellow-tan, soft gelatinous nodules alternating with firm grayish-white areas. Foci of hemorrhage were also present. Histology showed myxoid liposarcoma.
