Blindsight Flashcards
What is blindsight?
Ability to respond appropriately to visual stimuli in the absence of conscious vision in patients with damage to the primary visual cortex
What does damage to an area of V1 produced?
A scotoma
What is a scotoma?
An area of blindness in the corresponding area of the contralateral visual field of both eyes
What did Weiskrantz define consciousness los and found as?
The loss of phenomenal seeing in the contralateral half of the visual field caused by damage to the primary visual cortex but with residual capacity still present
How many experiments did DB participate in?
Fucking 5
In experiment 1 what was DB asked to do?
In experiment 2 what was DB asked to do?
What did results show?
DB was asked to shift his eyes from a fixation point to the position he would guess a light was flashed
Same as the first but DB had to reach with his fingers instead of his eyes
Correspondence between target and finger position especially for larger stimulus
In experiment 2 what was DB asked to do?
Same as the first but DB had to reach with his fingers instead of his eyes
