Tranexamic acid dose for menorrhagia
heavy periods
1 g 3 times a day for up to 4 days, to be initiated when menstruation has started, dose can be increased if necessary up to maximum 4 g per day.
Pt has menorrhagia but irregular menstrual bleeding. Can you give tranexenamic acid
caution in irregular menstrual bleeding (establish cause before initiating therapy)
why is tranexanmic acid cautioned in people taking COC
patients receiving oral contraceptives (increased risk of thrombosis)
before initiating treatment for menorrhagia, what do you need to do
Menorrhagia
Before initiating treatment for menorrhagia, exclude structural or histological causes or fibroids causing distortion of uterine cavity.
common SE
Diarrhoea (reduce dose); nausea; vomiting
what to do if pt develops diarrhoea
common SE
reduce dose
rare side effects that warrant discontinuation
vision change or colour vision change
