From where does the Bladder derive its energy for its function of ‘Qi transformation’?
From Kidney-Yang and the Fire of the Gate of Life.
Which other organs assist the Bladder in urination?
a) Kidneys, Stomach and Pericardium.
b) Kidneys, Small Intestine, Triple Burner and Lungs.
c) Kidneys, Gall Bladder and Stomach.

The Bladder relies on the Kidney for:
a) Blood and Yin.
b) Qi and Heat.
c) Yin and Fluids.
b
The Lower Burner is often compared to a ‘bubbling cauldron’.

The Bladder’s function of transforming fluids requires:
a) Bile from the Gall Bladder.
b) Food essences from the Stomach.
c) Heat from Kidney-Yang.
c
The Bladder can be seen as the Yang aspect of the Kidney.

Abundant, clear urination can be a symptom of:
a) Deficiency of the Upper Burner.
b) Deficiency of Yin.

Describe the relationship between the Heart and the Bladder.
Heart-Qi descends towards the Small Intestine and Bladder, assisting in the excretion of urine. The Bladder divergent channel flows through the Heart. Heart disharmonies can be transmitted to the Bladder via the Small Intestine, resulting in urinary symptoms.
Describe the close relationship between the Kidneys and Bladder.
The Kidneys and Bladder are interiorly–exteriorly related. Kidney-Yang provides Qi and heat for fluid transformation in the Bladder, whereas the Bladder transforms and excretes the Kidneys’ ‘dirty’ fluids.
Why might Lung-Qi deficiency cause urinary retention?
Lung-Qi descends to the Kidneys and Bladder to promote transformation and excretion of urine.
The Heart exerts an influence on urination.
