manic episode
a distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood and abnormally persistentyly increased activity or energy, lasting at least 4 consecutive days and preent most of the day,nearly every day
Hypomanic episode
criteria have been met for at least one manic episode
bipolar I
criteria have been met for at least one hypomanic episode and at least one major depressive episode
bipolar ii
for at least 2 years there have been numerous periods with hypomanic symptoms that do not meet criteria for hypomanic episode and numerous periods with depressive symptoms that do not meet criteria for a major depressive episode
cyclothymic disorder
chronic, fluctuating, mood disrurbance involving numerous periods of hypomanic symptoms and periods of depressive symptoms that are distinct from each other
