Biology-Test 2C Flashcards
Aerobic & Anaerobic
Aerobic requires oxygen, Anaerobic does Not.
Fermentation
Occurs in Glycolysis Cycle, if oxygen is not present it will stay in the cytoplasm where it will convert into lactate or ethanol in non-humans. or in some cases turn oxidize NADH - NAD+
How many ATP required to power 1 muscle cell.
10 million ATP molecuels per second
Besides Glucose, what other forms of organic molecules are used to make ATP
Fats(fatty acids), carbohydrates(sugars), and Proteins(amino acids).
Chloroplast Properties
stroma-fluid liquid inside chloroplast.(not to be confused with stroma)
thylakoid- pancake looking stacks inside chloroplast. (They have membranes).
Chloroplast
Responsible for Photosyntesis and are embedded in plants.
stoma
Special holes in plants that allow gases in or out.
Types of Energy
- Gamma Rays
- X-rays
- UltraViolet
- Infrared
- Micro-Waves
- Radio Waves
Energy Differences
In wave lenghts
light visible in between UV & Infrared.
Sunlight Energy is called
Electromagnetic Energy or Radiation
Pigments
Molecules that obsorb light, which are build into the thylakoid membrane.
They obsorb some wavelenths of light and Transmit others.
Best optimum activity for enzymes
about 37 degrees C.
pH around neutrality
Enzymes
activity site, substrate, competitive inhibitors and non-competitor inhibitors.
categories affecting cellular respiration
- Blocks electron transport chain
- Inhibits ATP synthase
- membrane leaky for hydrogen ions.
Grana
A stack of thylakoid
