Biology Stuff Flashcards
Taxonomy classification?
Domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species
What is a Cladogram used for?
Showing the evolution over time of species
Trophic level names
Producers, primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary
What type of relationship/s are +/-
Predation and parasitism
What are abiotic factors?
Factors which are non-living or physical what affect an ecosystem/environment . (Sun, rain, soil etc)
What are biotic factors?
Factors which are living and affect an ecosystem/environment, such as organisms.
What is Population density?
Number of organisms in a given area. (Same species)
What is a Transect?
A straight line set over a certain distance to measure the number of organisms or topography.
What is a quadrat?
A randomly placed square in a set area to get an estimated population.
What is the capture and recapture method?
It is a method for getting an estimated population of a certain species. This was done by capturing a sample, marking them releasing them, then recapturing them. Followed by a calculation.
What is the equation for the capture and recapture method?
Sample 1 multiplied by sample 2, divided by marked in sample two = est pop
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
6CO(2) + 6H(2)O —-> 6O(2) + C(6)H(12)O(6)
What is primary succession?
Primary succession is the succession of new organisms in a area which has absolutely no life. (In areas like sand dunes, lava flow and glacial run)
What is secondary succession?
It is the Succession of an area which was destroyed, but still has soil and some organisms left. (Caused or left by fires, flood etc)
What type of curve does a r-selected species follow?
A J-curve, quickly growing above the carrying capacity.
