Biology Protists Flashcards
Algae
Plant like autotrophs that’s are autotrophs
Why aren’t protozoans considered animals?
Due to their size
Micronucleus
Involved in the genetic exchange during sexual reproduction
Saccodians
Protozoans that move by extending cytoplasm
Zooflagellates
Are protozoans that move by means of flagella
Ciliaphorans
Little balls covered in cilia (hair) called a paramecium
Protozoan
Animal like protists that are heterotrophs
Macronucleus
Controls ongoing functions of the cell and asexual reproduction.
Brown Algae
Brown, grow in salt water. Usually anchor to rocks.
Diatoms
Algae that lack cilia and flagella. The cell walls are made of glass
Euglenoids
Resemble both plants and animals but they have chloroplasts so are considered a plant
Green algae
Multicellular green algae that grow end to end or flat leaf like structures.. live in fresh water
Red algae
Not always red, grow in warm salt water.
Plasmodium
When plasmodial slime molds form a mass of cytoplasm to feed
Cellular slime molds
Alternate from ameboid to spore forming bodies.
