Q

What are the 7 characteristics of living things? All living things are:

A
  1. Are organized (cells, tissues, organs)
  2. Acquire materials and energy (and use them)
  3. Reproduce
  4. Respond to stimuli (danger, food)
  5. Are homeostatic (maintain pH, temp, etc.)
  6. Grow and develop (life stages, after injury)
  7. Are adapted (suited to their way of life

Q

Characteristics of Eukaryotic cells

A
  • Exukaryotic cells have nuclei and other membrane-based organelles
  • more advanced cell type
  • ex. Animal cell, plant cell, fungus cell

Q

Characteristic of prokaryotic cells

A
  • Have a cell membrane, but no membrane-based organelles
  • less advanced cell type
  • have no nucleus, but do have DNA (stored in nucleoid region)
  • ex. Bacteria

Q

Characteristics of the Plant cell

A
  • a eukaryotic cell
  • they have chloroplasts which allow plants to produce sugar from sunlight in the process of photosynthesis
  • has a non-living cell wall for structure
  • no centrioles
