Q

How does temperature change affect enzymes?

A

Each enzyme has an ‘active site’

If it gets too hot, the enzyme is ‘denatured’

Q

How is enzyme function can be affected by changes in pH?

A

Most enzymes work best at pH7-8, this is their ‘optimum pH’
Rate of reaction is slower either side of the optimum pH
At wrong pH the shape of an enzymes active site is changed and it will not fit the substrate molecule
The enzyme is denatured
