Bioenergetics II Flashcards
What is ATP?
One of the most common molecules involved in energy transfer - energy currency of cell.
Examples of nucleotides.
Cytidine - Lipid
Uridine - Carbohydrate
Adenosine - Energy carrier
Guanosine - Transmembrane signalling
Describe the muscle contraction process.
Calcium ions binds to protein complex
high energy myosin head bridges gap forming cross bridges.
myosin binds to actin and Pi is released
myosin conformational change - lower energy state
myosin expands energy and moves through power stroke pulling acid filament toward M-line.
sarcomere shortens - muscle contracts
end of power stroke - myosin in ow energy position
ADP released - cross bridges still in place
ATP bind to myosin - myosin high energy state - releasing head from actin active site
ATP attach to myosin - cross bridges cycle starts again
