Bioenergetics Flashcards
Uses of glucose in plants
used for respiration
• converted into insoluble starch for storage
• used to produce fat or oil for storage
• used to produce cellulose, which strengthens the cell wall
• used to produce amino acids for protein synthesis.
To produce proteins, plants also use nitrate ions that are absorbed from
the soil.
Anaeorbic respiration in plants
- fermentation
- beer and bread production
Metabolism
-sum of all chemical reactios inside the body
Excess amino acids
Kideys remove ecess amino acids from blood
Broken down into ammonia (toxic)
Urea produced in liver
Urine is stored in the bladder
-contains waste nitrate (often used as fertilliser)
How is heat controlled- greenhouse
-greenhouse traps heat
Summer- shades and ventillation
Winter- heater
Light- greenhouse economics
-always needed
Inight- artificial lights
Co2- greenhouse economics
-paraffin heaters- as paraffin burns, releases co2
Fertilisers
Added. To soi
Provides nitrates and magnesium for example
Pests and disease- greenhouse economics
