Q

Why does gluconeogenesis occur?

A

In order to maintain the blood glucose levels. Takes place in the liver & kidneys.. It occurs when we fast for example, the gluconeogenic enzymes are expressed during fasting e.g pyruvate carboxylase

Q

What is involved in the conversion of pyruvate to glucose?

A

4 ATP, 2 GTP
4 ADP, 2 GDP
(extra energy is needed - reactions are not energetically favourable)
