BioChemistry Flashcards
IgM
First AB made in response to an antigen
IgG
Most common. 2nd response. Can cross placenta
IgA
Present in blood, tears, milk
IgD
Present on B Lymphocytes
IgE
Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions
What is collegen made up of
glycine-X-X (commonly lysine and proline)
Where is Type I collagen found in the body
bowmans and sclera and bone
Where it type IV found in the body
viterous
Competitive enzymes
will increase Km bu Vmax the same
non competitive enzymes
not affect on Km but will reduce Vmax
Monose
Glucose + glucose
Lactose
glucose + galactose
Sucrose
glucose + fructose
NADPH
makes FA, lipids, steroids
NADH/FADH
makes ATP
What can Acetyl-CoA make
ATP, ketone bodies, malanyl-coA, cholesterol
What is used for gluconeogensis
LAG. Lactic, amino acids, glycine
Pentose shunt
Makes NADPH
Gluconeogensis
Make new glucose when starving. glucagon.
glycogenesis
store glucose. insulin
Glycogenelysis
break down glucose storage. Glucagon.
What is cholesterol precursor for
mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids
Ketone bodies
acetyl acetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, acetone
Omega 3
Anti-inflammatory. ALA = EPA + DHA. Alpha linolenic acid, eicospentenoic acid, docosohexaenoic acid.
Omega 6
pro-inflammatory. aracnidi acid
Fat Soluble vitamins
DEAK
Anti-oxidants
ACE + zinc
Vitamin B1
Thiamine. Decreased with alcoholism.
Vitamine B12
Cobalamin. Pernicious anemia destroys parietal cells and causes a deficiency. Also associated with alcoholism.
Vitamine C
Ascorbic acid. Scurvy. Helps conective tissue
Folic acid
Folate. Most common deficiency in US. Helps purine and pyrimidine nucleotides.
Vit D
Calciferol. Dangerous! Too low and get ricketts and osteomalacia. Excess with sarcoidosis. Most toxic of the vitamins
Vitamine E
Tocopherol. Easy. The least toxic.
Vitamin A
Retinol. Awful. Deficiency causes night blindness and bitots spot if low. Used to make rhodopsin.
Vitamin K
Used for clotting.
Copper
Get deposits with wilsons dz and kaiser fletcher ring. Also get sunflower cataracts. Wilson also called hepatolenticular degeneration.
zinc
Used to DNA synthesis
pyrimide dimers
made by two thymines on same strand. Caused by UV B.
DNA has ___ with RNA has ___
T and U
How to remember what each blot does
Sunny Day (south = DNA) No Rain (north = RNA) Why not Picnic (west=prot)
Diseases that lead to early cataracs
MAD wilson. Myotonic dystrophy, atopic dermatitis, diabetes.
