Hormone investigated
Adrenaline
What is Adrenaline
Adrenaline is produced by the adrenal glands and is released into your bloodstream in response to stressful or dangerous situations.
AIM
Investigate effect of adrenaline on creating emotional memories
DESCRIBE
PPTS watch slides while listening to a story.
CONDITION 1: uninteresting
CONDITION 2: traumatic story about a boy who was in an accident.
After two weeks ppts came back to answer questions about the slides. Those in CONDITON 2 remembered more.
THEN repeated to test adrenaline, repeated but gave them BETA BLOCKERS. These interfere with the release of adrenaline; in the study it was used to prevent activation of the amygdala to prevent the formation of emotional memory.
RESULTS/CONCLUDE
those with BETA BLOCKERS, didn’t remember as many details.
It appears that by interacting with the amygdala, the hormone adrenaline plays a key role in the creation of emotional memories.
