Bio female reproductive system Flashcards
What controls puberty in female?
Dialogue of hormones between the brain and the gonads (ovaries)
The pituitary gland produces two hormones what are they and what is their function?
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) which work cynically to stimulate the ovaries to produce two other hormones, estrogen and progesterone. They also coordinate the development of the female secondary sexual characteristics.
What does FSH develops?
They develop follicles where the ova are. Also releases estrogen from the ovary thus causing the lining of the uterus to thicken
What are the two feedback effects of estrogen?
First it inhibits the productions of FSH thus preventing too many eggs ripening at once. Second it stimulates the production of LH that causes the ovum to be released, a process called ovulation
What is ovulation
a process when LH causes the ovum to be released.
What happen to the uterus after ovulation?
The follicle becomes a new structure the corpus lutes. With the presence of LH the corpus is forced to release the second hormone; progesterone.
What is the progesterones function?
It maintains the lining of the uterus, and inhibits the production of FSH.
