Q

Who was Francisco Redi? What was his experiment? Abiogenesis or biogenesis? What was his second experiment?

A

Francisco Redi was the first scientist to use a control group. His experiment was that he put two jars with meat in them. One with a lid and one without, the one without got maggots and the one with got no maggots. People said he left the active principle out so his 2nd experiment used gauze as one lid and one without a lid so that the air could still flow. He proved flys came from maggots. Biogenesis.

Q

What did John Needham do? Biogenesis or abiogenesis?

A

He boiled meat in a loosely sealed flakes. Boiled broth, fire, no bacteria, no lid. Then he boiled another broth, fire, with a lid and bacteria grew on the glass. The vegetative force was “present”. The problem was that it was too loosely sealed. Abiogenesis.
