BIO 2.5 The Cell Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Interphase
A
- Day-to-day activities (cellular processes).
- Preparation for cell division (Mitosis):
Grows (about double in size)
DNA replicates (duplicates)
2
Q
What is mitosis ? What are the 4 stages of mitosis ?
A
Division of the nucleus and DNA
–Prophase
–Metaphase
–Anaphase
–Telophase
3
Q
Prophase
A
- Chromatin condenses into chromosomes.
- Nuclear membrane disappears.
4
Q
Metaphase
A
- Chromosomes line up along the equator (centre/middle).
5
Q
Anaphase
A
- Sister chromatids are pulled apart by the spindle fibers retracting, splitting the centromere.
- Now separated, the sister chromatids are called “daughter chromosomes”
6
Q
Telophase
A
- Nuclear membrane reforms around two identical/complete sets of DNA.
7
Q
Cytokinesis
A
- Cleavage furrow forms in animal cells.
- Cell plate forms in plant cells.
- Division of the cell (cytoplasm).
