Betty and Sandra (Vera in the room) Flashcards
Vera
Sandra! He doesn’t wear gold-rimmed glasses does he?
Sandra
Oh, stop messing about. Aunty Vee, I’m serious.
Betty enters. Sandra goes to the front door.
Where are you going, Sandra?
I’m just going out.
Sandra! We have got visitors.
I won’t be long.
I don’t think that’s the point.
I’ll be back soon.
Sandra exits. The front door slams.
Betty
Do you know, if there was a speck of dust on the arm of that settee and Sandra was sitting there, she wouldn’t even lean across and brush it off. Now that’s not right, is it, Vera?
It’s not, Betty.
Betty
I mean that’s no way to treat a three hundred and fifty pound suite. (She ‘tuts’.)Oh Vera, it just slipped out. You’ll think I’m an awful bragger, won’t you.
Vera
Is that what it cost you, Betty?
Betty
Well you know I don’t buy rubbish, Vera.
Vera
Ooh, it’s just like sitting on a cloud.
Betty
Of course you won’t mention that to our Reeny, will you?
Vera
I wouldn’t dream …
Betty
With her having got a suite not so long ago. I’d hate to embarrass her. You know, she’d be a bit upset if she thought mine was a lot dearer than hers.
Sandra
I’ll be back soon.
Do you know, if there was a speck of dust on the arm of that settee and Sandra was sitting there, she wouldn’t even lean across and brush it off. Now that’s not right, is it Vera?
