Beta lactamase inhibitors Flashcards
What does Monobactams work on?
Gr-, Pseudomonas
Name the monobatams (drug names and admin.)
Aztreonam- parenteral, Tigemonam- oral
What do we treat with monbactams?
Septicemia, meningitis, perotinitis, E.Coli multiresistant UTI.
Use only when others don’t work- CIA!
Name the carbapenems:
Imipenem (+cilstatin), Meropenem
What do we treat with carbapenems?
Last resort antimicrobial!! Highly active against all important known pathogenic bacteria.
Meropenem use:
septicemia, parental use
Imipenem metabolism
Metabolised by dihydropeptidase in kidney. Short halflife ca 1-2 h. Cilstatin inhibits the enzyme, and T1/2 increase to 8 h.
Betalactamase inhibitors + what drugs do they protect:
Clavulenic acid (+amoxicilln) =suicide inhibitor
Sulbactam (+ampicillin)
Tazobactam (+piperacillin)
Betalactamase activity is found in these bacteria:
Gr+: Staphylococcus
Gr-: E.coli, salmonella, klebsiella, proteus, bacteriodes, haemophilus, pasteurella, bordetella, PSEUDOMONAS
