A
Decrease HR & BP, thus decreasing the demand of oxygen for the heart

A
Blocks stimulation of Beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, decreasing stimulation to the heart

A
Bradycardia, HF, Hypotension, pulmonary edema, weakness, fatigue, depression, ED

Patient teaching
A
Monitor BP & P, change positions slowly, notify MD if dyspnea or slowed pulse

Nursing Interventions
A
Monitoring HR & P, EKG
Hold meds if <50 HR
Monitor VS, daily weight, I&O
Assess for S/S of pulmonary edema: crackles, weight gain, dyspnea
