Benign Bone tumors- Fibrous/cystic/misc Flashcards
Types of benign bone tumors of fibrous origin
- Non ossifying fibroma (fibrous cortical defect smaller version)
- Fibrous dysplasia
Non ossifying fibroma (age, pain, loc, border/matrix)
age- children (8-20)- fibrous cortical defect younger
pain- no
Loc- cortex of metaphysis (LL)
imaging- well defined with sclerotic boder w/ lucent/SOAPY matrix
Fibrous dysplasia- age, pain, loc, border/matrix
age- children/young adults
Pain- painless
Loc- diametaphyseal region of medullary bone
Imaging- well defined with lytic/ground glass/smokey look
What are the 3 forms of fibrous dysplasia
- Monostotic (m/c)
- Polyostotic
- Polyostotic with endrocrine abnormalities (mccure albright syndrome- brown spots on skin)
What are the cycstic lesions (2)
- Simple bone cyst
2. Aneurysmal bone cyst
Simple bone cyst- Age, pain, loc, margin/matrix
Age- 8-14
Pain- no
Loc- central medullary cavity of metaphysis (humerus + prox femur mc)
Imaging- well defined, thin sclerotic rim, radiolucent+ septated
Aneruysmal bone cyst- age, pain, loc, margin/matrix
age- 5-20
Pain- yes (growing quick)
Loc- cortex of metaphysis
Imaging- well defined, expansile balooned out appearence, lucent/Soapy, not much slerosis
Interosseus lipoma- loc, pain, margins/matrix, plan
loc- lower extremity (calcaneous mc)
pain- no
Imaging- lucent w/ calcification @ center
Plan- can leave alone (low risk)
Hemangioma- loc, appearence, pan, management
loc- m/c tumor of spine
Pain- no
imaging- cordory cloth like appearence
Manage- can leave
Giant cell tumor- age, pain, loc, border/matrix
Age- 20-40
Pain- localized pain w swelling (25% malignamt)
Loc- medullary cavity of epipysis ( mc of sacrum)
Imaging- well defined, lucent expanisle lesion, kinda soapy
