Basics Flashcards
What are the two types of tumors (+ subsets)
- benign
2. Malignant (primary 30%, secondary 70%)
10 determinants of lesion aggresiveness
- Age
- Soft Tiss Involv
- Pattern of destruction
- Size of lesion
- Loc of lesion
- ZOT
- Margination
- Matrix
- Host response
- Monostatic/Polyostotic
Begnin bone tumors from 0-10 (2)
- Simple bone cyst
2. Eosinophilic granuloma
Begnin bone tumors from 10-20 (9)
- Non ossifying fibroma
- Fibrous dysplasia
- Simple bone cyst
- Anerysmal bone cyst
- Osteochondroma
- Oseoid ostoma
- osteoblastoma
- chrondroblastoma
- Chondromyoid fibroma
Begnin bone tumors from 20-40 (2)
- Enchromdroma
2. Giant cell tumor
Begnin bone tumors from 40+ (1)
- Osteoma
Malignant bone tumors from 0-10 (3)
- Edwings sarcoma
- Leukemia
- metastatic neuroblastoma
Malignant bone tumors from 10-40 (3)
- Osteosarcoma
- Edwings sarcoma
- Chondrosarcoma
Malignamt bone tumors 40+ (6)
- Metastatic
- Myeloma
- Chrondrosarcoma
- Osteosarcoma
- PUS
- Chordoma
What are the 3 osteolytic lesion patterns of bone destruuction
- Geographic (benign)
- Moth eaten- holes w less defined margins
- Permeative- small holes (v aggressive)
What are the 2 osteoblastic lesion patterns of bone destruction
- Blastic
2. Mixed
What size of lesion may indicate a malignant/agressive lesion
> 5cm
What are the 2 types of margination and what may they suggest about aggresiveness
- Sclerotic- narrow zot + sclerotic border suggest non agressive
- Non sclerotic- agressive lesion
What are the 4 types of matrix usually seen
Fat- more lucent
Cartilage- popcorn like (mixed)
Osseous- organized or disorganized trabecule
Fibrous- More smoky appearence
What are agressive host responses
Cortical destruction
Penetration of soft tissue
May have perosteal rxn (usually sunburst)
