Kerfing
A
- A series of parallel saw cuts are made on one side of the material to be bent enabling it to compress on that side

Steam bending
A
- Lengths of wood are placed in a steam chest with saturated steam at 100°c
- The supply of heat and moisture makes the timber soft and pliable
- Time: 1 hour per 25mm

Laminating
A
- Layers of wood are glued and clamped in a jig
- Wood takes required form
- Laminating with vacuum bag or straps as a method of pressing agains the former
- Sealed end, glued laminations, former, g clamps, base board
- OR waxed hardwood, clamping blocks, vice/sash cramps
