Behaviourist Approach Flashcards
1
Q
Thé behaviourist approach
A
- believes we learn to behave in response to our environment
- either by stimulus response association or as a result of reinforcement
2
Q
Important contributors to the behaviourist approach
A
- Ivan Pavlov ( classical conditioning)
- bf skinner ( operant conditioning)
3
Q
Behaviourist
A
- people who believe human behaviour can be explained in terms of conditioning
- without need to consider thoughts or feelings
4
Q
Punishment
A
- involves application of an unpleasant consequence following a behaviour
- result = behaviour is less likely to occur again in future
5
Q
Reinforcement
A
- term used in psychology to refer to anything that strengthens a response
- increases likelihood that it will occur again in future
6
Q
Imitation
A
-action of using someone or something as a model and copying their behaviour
7
Q
Méditational processes
A
- refer to internal mental processes that exist between environmental stimuli and response
- made by an individual to those stimuli
8
Q
Modelling
A
-form of learning where individuals learn a particular behaviour by observing another individual performing that behaviour
9
Q
Social learning theory
A
-learning through observing others and imitating behaviour that are rewarded
10
Q
Vicarious reinforcement
A
- learning that isn’t a result of direct reinforcement of behaviour
- but through observing someone else being reinforced for that behaviour
11
Q
Behaviourist approach behaviourism applications
A
- Behaviorism has increased our understanding of causes of phobias & attachment
- given rise to therapies such as systematic desensitisation & token economy
