Behavioural approach Flashcards
according to the behavioural approach, we are all born as ‘tabula rasa’, what does this mean?
blank slate
why does the behavioural approach use animals?
because animals are close to humans
the behavioural approach believes that ALL behaviour is learnt via the
environment
what does classical conditioning always look like? (the graph)
UCS —- > UCR
NS + UCS = UCR
CS —- >
what is operant conditioning?
it is when we form a link between behaviour (the operant) and the behaviour threat if followed (the consequence). Essentially, when we learn from consequence.
how many types of consequences are there in operant condition?
there are two consequences
what are names of these two consequences ?
reinforcement and punishment
what is positive reinforcement?
behaviour that is followed by a positive consequence (reward)
what is negative reinforcement?
behaviour that is followed up by the removal of an unpleasant stimulus
what does punishment mean?
a consequence that reduces the probability of a behaviour happening
both operant and classical conditioning take … (hint: clock)
