Q

Strengths

A

Studies behaviour In a very scientific way uses labs so extraneous variables avoided so cause and effect Established - direct link between agressive behaviour and non aggressive on a child behaviour as shown by Bandura
Huge practical application to real life support for classical and operant conditioning provides support for teachers when bringing in teaching methods , also helps to shape their child. Strong and highly influential perspective in psychology as it thoroughly explains behaviour- skinner shows how rats can press lever (reinforcement) and get food , Bandura how role models are highly influential on children which can help parents with children. Farrington supports upbringing can cause a person to turn to crime.

Q

Weaknesses

A

Lab low in ecological validity - bandura
Huge problem with ethics because of children - little Albert only baby couldn’t give consent could of causes psychological harm was taught classical conditioning to not like objects which were once his favourite
Only focuses on observable behaviour - schizophrenia not observable because it occurs I’m the mind it is reductionist which causes them to miss out on important factors
Deterministic assumes behaviour will be learnt by classical and operant conditioning assumes everyone will learn in this way
