Self-help
General adaptation syndrome
the typical reaction to stressful circumstances. Consists of three stages : Alarm, Resistance, exhaustion.
Alarm
the emergency phase in which the fight or flight system kicks in.
•The body is reacting to deal with the threat.
Resistance
chemical changes have occurred and the body is coping, although at this point its vulnerability to others is increased.
Exhaustion
bodily resources are now run down and there is increased proneness to illness or even death, depending on the severity of the circumstances.
Pain
Two sides to pain- sensory and emotional/cognitive.
Sensory pain
the point of pain or where it hurts.
Emotional/cognitive side of pain
emotional reaction to the pain.
make a gateway for the extent of the pain reaction.
- Anger, fear, unhappiness, and so on.
- Somehow interacts with the sensory side of pain and can make the pain worsen.
Health
is not merely a physical or biological matter but involves psychological aspects that can come into play before, during or after an illness, disease or accident.
