Be A Leader Flashcards
Why is installing my confidence in the other person crucial?
They can easily follow suggestions and master the function sooner.
If I know someone is in fault, how can I tell them so they genuinely change?
Praise them before letting them know about the faults. When talking about the faults, be tact (sensitivity in dealing with difficult problems)
How can I criticise but not be hated for it?
Begin with sincere praise, followed by ‘and’ to indirectly point attention to what needs work. Make them feel important.
Can’t keep from loving a man like that.
What should be done if I have criticised without beginning with praise?
The next best thing: praise after criticism
Why should I talk about my own mistakes?
It isn’t nearly so difficult to listen to a recital of my faults if the person criticising begins by humbly admitting that he, too, is far from impeccable.
Why are people more likely to accept a suggestion over an order?
Other than it being friendlier, it stimulates creativity from them, giving an impression that they had a part in the decision.
What feeling will the other person get if I save his face?
He or she will be determined to never let me down again.
How can I save face?
A few mins of thought
A considerate word or two
A genuine understanding of the other person’s attitude
“______ is like sunlight to the warm human spirit; we cannot flower and grow without it. And yet, while most of us are only too ready to apply to others the cold wind of ________, we are somehow reluctant to give our fellow the warm sunshine of _______.”

What was the result of the study in which they experimented with animals and humans their actions after minimising criticism and emphasising praise?
The good things people do will be reinforced and the poorer things will atrophy (gradually decline) through lack of attention.
All principles taught in How To Win Friends And Influence People will only work when…
… they come from the great. It’s not a bag of terrifies. It’s a new way of life. Nobody wants flattery.
How can I give people a reputation to live up to.
Show that I respect a certain ability of theirs. Then indirectly mention what needs work on (in a friendly manner and as a suggestion)
How can I tackle what seems like an impossible goal?
Celebrate every baby step. Make it a big deal. This makes learning easy and fun.
How can I encourage the other person?
Be liberal with my encouragement
Make the thing seem easy to do
Let them know that I have faith in their ability to do it, that he has an undeveloped flair for it
What are some guidelines to remember when trying to get them to do something?
Be sincere. Don’t promise anything I cannot deliver.
Concentrate on the benefits to them
Know what they really want and link the benefits to their wants
Know exactly what I want them to do
