BCN Chapter 11 Flashcards
What is stereognosis?
ability to identify object by touch
What is graphesthesia?
Ability to identify figures drawn on skin
What are the Hz needed for vibration sense?
256 Hz or higher
If the frequency is 128 or lower what is testes?
light touch
What temperatures do temp receptors detect?
Above 10 degrees C or below 34 degrees C
What temperatures do thermal nociceptors detect?
> 45 or
What are the classes of fibers for pain?
1-limb position and motion (A-delta)
2-tactile, pressure, vibration (A-beta)
3-Fast pain, cold (A-alpha)
4-unmylinated, slow pain, warmth (C)
What are the first order neurons for tactile, vibration, and proprioception?
Large, fast conduction unipolar neurons that are receiving the input.
Where does the cuneate tract run?
Mid-thoracic up
Where does the gracile tract run?
Below mid-thoracic
Where does the second-order neuron start?
Where first-order synapse at gracile and cuneate nuclei in the caudal medulla
Where do 3rd order neurons run?
Second-order neurons synapses in the ventral posterolateral nucleus (VPL). Fibers pass in the posterior limb of internal capsule
What is fast pain transmitted by?
Neospinothalamic system
Where is Brown-Sequard syndrome?
Ipsilateral spastic paralysis and loss of tactile, vibration, and proprioception with contralateral loss of pain and temperature
Where is slow pain transmitted by?
Paleospinothalamic tract
