Basic use and operation of mission equipment. Flashcards

1
Q

Data Transfer System:

A

The DTS is integrated within the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) providing the Integrated Avionics Subsystem (IAS) with the functionality to load mission data, log mission event records, read and write data to PC cards, load threat data into the
Digital Map Computer (DMC), and perform DAFIF type searches. 9.2MYII utilizes DTU-7100.

Q

Improved Data Modem:

A

The IDM is a multi-service, interference-resistant modem that allows both air and ground crews to exchange target/battle information.

CAAS gives the pilot the ability to display received messages, manage the list of received messages, easily acknowledge the receipt of a message, efficiently construct messages to be transmitted, inspect status and manage transmitted messages, and quickly signal an emergency.

CAAS aids the construction of Joint Variable Message Format (JVMF) messages by presenting a terse form (a message template) listing the fields that the operator can fill. Accessed via Tactical Data Link (TDL) login.

Blue Force Tracking System:

A

Blue Force Tracking System: The BFT provides digital Satellite Communications (SATCOM) communication for battlefield situational awareness using communications systems and the Global Positioning System. The system consists of an L-band transceiver, amplifier, EMI filter
and box, and a satellite antenna. An improved data modem interfaces with the system to provide digital data communication within CAAS.

Q

Helicopter Performance:

A

Helicopter Performance: Calculations of weight and balance, maximum endurance, maximum range airspeeds, power available, power required, and fuel flow are performed by mission management. If conditions are out of tolerance for current or
future legs, alerts are generated.

Q

Flight Director:

A

Flight Director: The flight director can be coupled to mission management so thatVertical Situation Display (VSD) cues can be utilized to follow the flight plan. The flight director can obtain speed, altitude, destination, and mode parameters from the flight plan for use in calculations.

Extended Range Fuel System II:

A

The Extended Range Fuel System II (ERFS II) and the Reduced Size Extended Range Fuel System (RSERFS) are internal tank fuel systems that provides the CH-47F with the ability to fly for an extended period of time without having to land for refueling.

16
Q

The ERFS II/RSERFS can be refueled using

A

the gravity fill or pressure fill techniques

17
Q

Fuel transfer pump system can operate

A

with APU, engine, or external power applied.

18
Q

The FARE kit is used to

A

transfer fuel from the ERFS II/RSERFS tanks to other aircraft or combat weapons systems, or to defuel the ERFS II/RSERFS tanks.

19
Q

The FARE Kit contains

A

It contains a pump module with a self priming
pump rated at 120 gpm (with attaching hose and remote switch), six collapsible unisex hoses, a unisex “y” coupling, two in-line multiple cartridge filters (capable of filtering out 5 micron absolute particles), a flowmeter, and various fuel delivery nozzles.

20
Q

Microclimate Cooling System:

A

The MCS helps aircrew members maintain a lower body
temperature while conducting missions in Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) IV gear
or hot-weather environments.

21
Q

Infrared Suppression System:

A

The CH-47F IRSS is a completely passive system, and when installed will reduce the aircraft’s overall Infrared (IR) signature. The IRSS has three components; the engine exhaust assembly, the Line Of Sight Blockers (LOSBs) and insulation blankets. The components of this system are dependent upon each other to collectively reduce the aircraft’s thermal signature.
