The 3 branches of the National government: Congress, the presidency, and the federal court system
What does article 4 deal mostly wiht?
The place of states in the American union and their relationships with the National Government
What does article 5 deal with?
How formal amendments may be added to the document
What does Article VI declare?
It declares that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land
What does article VII say?
It provides for the ratification of the Constitution
Popular Sovereignty
People are the only source for any and all governmental power. Government can govern only with the consent of the governed
Limited government
no government is all powerful.
Constitutionalism : The government must be conducted according to the Constitution
Rule of Law:
No one is ever above the law
Separation of powers:
No branch shall exercise the other’s powers
Checks and Balances
Each branch is subject to a set of Constitutional checks
Judicial Review
the power of a court to determine the constitutionality of a governmental action
Federalism
Division of power among a central government and several regional governments
