Revealed theology
our knowledge of God is comprised of what God has shown us.
Natural Theology- Evidentialism
there is clear evidence of God’s existence in the world around us, in nature, if we know how to be smart and spot it.
Natural Theology- Reasoning
it is possible to prove God using reasoning/logic
Evidentialism- Atheism
we should only believe in things that there is evidence to back up. there is no proof of God, so we should not believe.
Fideism
evidence for God would make religion worthless- faith with no proof is what makes religion meaningful.
Calvin’s innate beliefs
we are born with an innate knowledge/instinct of God and religion, because every culture has core beliefs about morals/religion.
Strengths of revealed theology
- we accept witness statements as evidence, the bible is just a coherent collection of them
- the old testament makes prophecies that come true in the new testament
- people should trust their senses, including if they see God
Strengths of natural theology
- the senses are the basis of science
- God gave us our senses, we should use them
- revelations may just be hallucinations, and they’re subjective
