What is the first step when you find someone who may need your help?
Verify that that the scene is safe
What should you do after verifying that the scene is safe?
Check the person for responsiveness
If the person does not respond, what do you do?
Shout for help, activate the emergency response system via phone, get an AED or send someone to get one.
Once you have activated ERS, asked for help, and/or gotten and AED what should you do next?
Look for breathing and check pulse
The person you found has abnormal breathing and a pulse
Provide rescue breathing every 1-6 sec or 10 breath/min.
check pulse every 2mins, if no pulse start CPR
If possible opioid overdose, administer naloxone
The person that you found has normal breathing and a pulse
monitor until emergency services arrive.
The person that you found is not breathing/is gasping and they have no pulse.
Start CPR
30 compressions and 2 breaths
Use AED ASAP
What do you do when the AED arrives on the scene.
Hook it up to the patient
Once the AED is hooked up to the person what do you do.
Have everyone clear the patient and the AED check the Rythm
Rythm is shockable
give 1 shock
resume CPR for 2 minutes or until AED does a rythm check
Continue until ALS providers take over or the victim starts moving
Rythm is not shockable
Resume CPR for 2 minutes until another rythm check by AED
Continue until ALS providers take over or the victim starts moving

What does the Compressor do?
Assesses the victim and stays next to their chest to perform compressions
switch compressors every 5 cycles of CPR or every 2 mins

Team Leader
Administer Medications
Compressor

Airway
How often should you switch compressors?
every 2 minutes or 5 cycles of CPR
