Lexical semantics

Semantics is about the abstract study meaning of language.
(What emotional meaning is connected to the word?)
Lexical semantics is about the ‘normal’ meaning of a word:
‘Pleb’
- Roman Pleb - Vulgar looking, Low born.

What is pragmatics?
A
Pragmatics is how the speaker is presented

What is discourse analysis?
A
What the word implies within society.
For example, what does a word tell us about this person’s position within society?

What is bottom-up processing?
A
It is referring to how we workout the meaning of texts from the small units of language.
(sounds, letters)

What is top-down processing?
A
Working out something by using our general knowledge of the world based on our experience of language.
