Basic Alignment/Posture Flashcards
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall at the head and neck?
through the ear lobe to the acromion process
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall at the shoulders?
through the acromion process
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line bisect the thoracic vertebrae?
The line bisects the chest symmetrically
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall through the lumbar vertebrae?
midway between the abdomen and back and slightly anterior to the sacroiliac joint
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall through the pelvis and hip?
posterior to the hip joint, through the greater trochanter, creating an extension moment
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall at the knee?
anterior to the midline of the knee, creating an extension moment
From a lateral prospective, where should the plume line fall at the ankle?
slightly anterior to the lateral malleolus, aligned with tuberosity of 5th metatarsal
What is the standard anatomical position of the pelvis?
anterior
Anatomical vs. functional leg length inequality
Anatomical LLI refers to a leg which is physically shorter than the other due to unequal growth rates, fractures, or deformities.
Functional LLI both legs are be identical in length, but one functions as if it were shorter because of either a postural imbalance in the body or uneven muscle contractions between the two legs.
What is the most common cause of functional leg length inequality?
excessive pronation of the feet or dropped arches
If one is sitting with correct posture where should the center of gravity be in reference to the ischia? Where is it in the slouched sitting position?
Anterior to the ischia
Posterior to the ischia
Is lumbar IVD pressure higher in sitting or standing? Why?
Sitting, because disc pressure increases with the tendency toward lumbar kyphosis
During sitting __% of body weight is distributed over each ischial tuberosity
18
During sitting __% of body weight is distributed over each thigh
21
During sitting __% of body weight is distributed over the sacrum
