Basal cell carcinoma Flashcards
Basal cell carcinoma presentation
Typically male, elderly and white
Slowly growing irregularly shaped raised lesion
Pearly raised border, not scaly and no ulceration
May have telangiectasia
Usually on face/neck or sun exposed areas
What is a superficial BCC
Looks like psoriasis but less scaly - more superficial than normal BCC’s
Common on torso
Can turn into a nodular BCC
Superficial BCC Management
Chemotherapy cream - don’t need to biopsy
BCC management
Very slow growing and easily treated
Don’t tend to metastasise or spread
If below neck can be removed by GP and sent for histology, if above neck then refer to secondary care for removal
MOHS micrographic surgery for face so you can excise as little as possible
Good sun safety
