Bandura's SLT (nurture) Flashcards
What is the SLT?
Considers how both environmental and cognitive factors interact to influence human learning and behaviour.
What did bandura believe?
That a child is born with a blank slate and the environment leads to the development of skills and behaviour.
Children learn and copy aggressive behaviour by observing their role models.
Aggressive behaviour- bobo doll experiment
4 stages of behavioural learning
ATTENTION- the child notices the behaviour of another person.
RETENTION- The child internalises the action by remembering what they have observed.
REPRODUCTION- The child copies the behaviour at an appropriate moment.
MOTIVATION- depending on if there is a positive or negative reinforcement. the child will either imitate or resist the behaviour.
(REMEMBER ARRM).
Three types of reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement- Behaviour is repeated because of personal satisfaction or rewards.
Negative reinforcement- Behaviour isn’t repeated to avoid being told off.
Vicarous reinforcement- Child copies the behaviour that they see others are gaining a reward for.
Criticisms and strengths of Banduras SLT.
The SLT doesn’t take into account the persons biological state.
Genetic, brain and learning differences aren’t taken into account.
However a strength is that it can help explain many complex social behaviours.
