What is privlege?

A

Unearned advantages (e.g. opportunities) conferred systematically (THINK: intentionally/deliberately setting up “the system” to favour X)
- Class of advantages that are bestowed upon a particular group/category of individuals

  • Impracticable to separate privilege and earned advantages: More privilege, easier to earn advantages

A
  • Privilege granted to members of dominant group on the basis of membership in dominate group (alone)
  • Unearned benefits +immunites to members of group based on moral luck
  • Dominant group values/norms define what is socially acceptable +desirable or valuable

  • Ex. Easier to get through security if white name
