back muscle organization with six layers innervation
Back musculature can be organized into several categories: 1. Deep and Superficial, 2. Extrinsic and Intrinsic, 3. Deep, Intermediate and Superficial or 4. Six Layers. The most descriptive of these is the Six Layer model that will be described here. The superficial three layers are Extrinsic (innervated by a branch of an Anterior Ramus or Cranial nerve) while the deep three layers are Intrinsic (innervated by Posterior Rami).
