Insertion:
scapular spine, lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion, spinous process
Origin: Superior Nuchal Line, External Occipital Protruberance
Innervation: Spinal Accessory Nerve or Cranial Nerve 11
Blood Supply: Transverse Cervical Artery
Action: retract scapula, elevate scapula, depress scapula, rotate glenoid cavity superiorly
Latissmus Dorsi M.
Layer 1
Insertion: intertubercular groove of the humerus
origin: Spinous Process of the t6-t12
Spinous Process of l1-l5
Iliac Crest
Median Sacral Crest of the Sacram
Action: medially rotate the humerus
adduct the humerus
extend the humerus (backwards thinking)
medially rotate the humerus
Innervation: Thoracodorsal Nerve
Blood Supply: Thoracodorsal Artery
Levator Scapulae M.
Layer 2
Origin: medial border of the scapula
Insertion: posterior tubercle of the transverse processes of the c1-c4 vertebrae
Action: elevate scapula, retract scapula, rotate glenoid cavity inferiorly (because its part of the scapula)
Innervation: Dorsal Scapular Nerve
Blood Supply: Dorsal Scapular Artery
Rhomboid Minor M.
Layer 2
Origin: spinous process of c7-t1
Insertion: medial border of the scapula
Action: retract scapula, elevate the scapula, rotate glenoid cavity inferiorly
Innervation: Dorsal Scapular Nerve
Blood Supply: Dorsal Scapular Artery
Rhomboid Major M.
Layer 2
Origin: spinous processes of t2-t5
Insertion: medial border of scapula
Action: retract scapula, elevate scapula, rotate glenoid cavity inferiorly
Innervation: dorsal scapular nerve
Blood Supply: dorsal scapular artery
Serratus Posterior Superior M.
Layer 3
Origin: spinous processes of c7-t3
Insertion: superior surface of ribs 2-5
Action: propioception, elevate the ribcage
Innervation: Intercostal Nerves of Ribs 2-5
Blood Supply: Superior Intercostal Artery
Serratus Posterior Inferior M.
Layer 3
Origin: Spinous Process of T11-L2
Insertion: Inferior Surface of the Ribs 8-12
Action: depress ribs during forced expiration, propioception
Innervation: Anterior Rami
Blood Supply: Lowest Posterior Intercostal Artery
Splenius Capitus M.
Layer 3 (start to get intrinsic)
Origin: lowest 1/2 of nuchal ligament
spinous process of c7-t3
Insertion: mastoid process of the temporal bone
Action: laterally flex the neck
extend the neck
Innervation: Dorsal Rami
Blood Supply: Occipital Artery??????

origin: lowest 1/2 of nuchal ligament
spinous process of c7- t3
insertion: transverse processes of c1-c3
action: rotate the face laterally towards side of muscle
laterally flex the neck
Innervation: dorsal rami
Blood Supply: Occipital artery

Layer 5 (deep intrinsic: apart of the erector spinae group)
Origin: costal angles of ribs 3-6
Insertion: posterior tubercle of transverse processes of c4-c6
Action: extend the neck, laterally flex the neck
Innervation: dorsal rami
Iliocostalis Thoracis M.
Layer 5 (deep intrinsic: a part of the erector spinae group)
Origin: costal angles of ribs 7-12
Insertion: Costal Angles of ribs 1-6
Action: maintain erect posture, extend the vertebral column
Innervation: dorsal rami
Iliocostalis Lumborum M.
Layer 5 (deep intrinsic: part of the erector spinae group)
Origin: lateral sacral crest
Insertion: costal angles of ribs 7-12
Action: maintain erect posture
Innervation: dorsal rami
Longissimus Capitis M.

Insertion: Mastoid process of temporal bone
Action: flex the neck toward the muscle, rotate the neck toward the muscle

Insertion: posterior tubercles of transverse processes and articular processes of c2-c6
