BA Week 1 Flashcards
All info from PowerPoints in week 1 BA
What are the stages of fire development?
Ignition
Growth
Fully developed
Decay
At what stage does flashover occur?
At the end of growth stage
What effects fire development?
Position of fire in room
Ceiling height
Smoke layer
Ventilation
What are the 3 sides of the fire triangle?
Oxygen
Fuel
Heat
What is a passive agent?
Give an example of a good passive agent
Absorbs heat from a fire
Water
What is pyrolysis?
Thermal decomposition of a substance by heat
Explain the limits of flammability
Fuel can only burn if composition is within certain limits.
The lower explosive limit is the lowest concentration of fuel that will just support a flame.
The upper explosive limit is the highest concentration of fuel that will support a flame
Give two examples of non-flammable gases
C02 and water vapor
What’s the difference between direct and indirect spray patterns?
Direct - narrow jet sprayed at seat of the fire
Indirect - spray aimed at seat of the fire
When should you complete a gauge check?
Every 3-5 minutes New compartment Locate causality Stress Landmark Change of level
What are the 3 options for a BA team leader when searching a compartment?
Stay
Advance
Withdraw
Define ideal mixture
Concentration of gas is exactly right in relation to the amount of 02 in air for combustion
When should emergency BA team deployment be considered?
BA wearer fails to return by time of the whistle Activation of a distress signal Indications of a BA wearer in distress Prolonged breakdown in communication Requested by a BA wearer
If you’re a trapped BA wearer and get entrapped what should you do?
Inform ECO and pass vital communications Relax Breath calmly Do not purge Limit talking with team Operate ADSU
When control are informed of a BA emergency what do they do?
Send 1 extra appliance
2 FDS Officers
1 ambulance
Information division officer And duty principle officer
What is the definition of a distress to wearer incident?
All incident including a malfunction of a BA set including the DDU and excluding ancillary items while in training or operation use is treated as a distress to wearer
What does BE CALM stand for
Battery life Electricians Cylinder contents Air flow Leakage Motion sensor
What is the limitation of EASE?
If BA mask has failed EASE will not provide air
What does an EASE set consist of?
300 BAR Regulator 3m of medium pressure house with a y piece connector 300 Bar 6.7L ADSU drop out key Carrying
What does EASE stand for?
Emergency air supply equipment
What is the pressure in the high pressure hose on the BA set?
And the medium pressure hose
300 BAR (to gauge) 18 BAR (to mask)
When does the DDU alarm?
How long for?
Pre alarms for 30 seconds
Full alarm if you don’t move for a further 15 secs after pre alarm
What is the length of the retractable line? Before knot and after knot
6m total
- 25m to knot
- 75m after
What is the cylinder contents when fully charged?
1800L at 300Bar
What are the different cylinder durations and how long is each?
Working - 35minutes
Safety - 10 minutes
Full duration - 45 minutes
What is the lowest pressure required to enter a risk area on first entry?
240 BAR
What surcoat does a incident commander wear?
Yellow and white
What surcoat does a sector commander wear?
Red and yellow
What are the criteria that should be considered when locating the entry control point?
As close as possible to incident In safe air If incident deteriorates don't need to move Focal point so easy to locate Consider how many entry points
