B8: Photosynthesis Flashcards
What are 5 ways that glucose produced from photosynthesis may be used?
Respiration, converted into insoluble starch for storage, used to produce fats/oil for storage, production of cellulose and produce amino acids for protein synthesis
What type of reaction is photosynthesis?
Endothermic
Why is starch a good form of storage?
Compact, easy to be broken down and insoluble, so water won’t be drawn into cell
How are amino acids formed?
Glucose combined with nitrate ions
What factors affect the rate of photosynthesis?
Light intensity, temperature, carbon dioxide concentration and chlorophyll concentration
What would affect the levels of chlorophyll in a plant?
Disease, environmental stress or lack of nutrients
What would farmers do in colder climates to increase the rate of photosynthesis?
Place plants in greenhouses, trapping sun’s heat, as well as artificial light
