What is salmonella?
bacterial disease which is spread through food that has been prepared in unhygienic conditions.
What are the symptoms of salmonella?
- fever
- abdominal cramps
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- nausea

How long does salmonella last for?
4-7 days
What is salmonella caused by?
lives in the intestinal tracts of animals like birds etc.
(It is normally transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces. )
(Approximately, every year 40,000 cases of salmonella are reported in the United States.)
How can we prevent salmonella?
- Keep raw meat separate from other foods when shopping for and storing the food.
- When handling uncooked poultry wash hands before and after, use cutting boards, countertops and utensils.
-Wash fruit and vegetables before eating and wash food before cooking.
Prevent cross-contamination from occurring.

How is gonorrhoea mainly transmitted?
Mainly sexually but there are some other ways
What are the symptoms of gonorrhoea?
A thin yellow or green discharge from the penis and vagina and it can also create pain when urinating.
- Symptoms only men get:inflammation of the foreskin and pain or tenderness in the testicles.
- symptoms only women get:pain or tenderness in the lower abdominal area and bleeding between periods, heavy periods and bleeding after sexual intercourse.
(Symptoms usually take about 2 weeks to develop)
How can you cure gonorrhoea?
- penicillin (ANTIBIOTICS)but the patient is usually perscribed several diffrent medicines(treatment usually involves injections to the buttocks or thigh followed by an antibiotic tablet.)
- (however it is possible tp have an other tablet instead of an injection)
This eases the effects but it may take up to 2 weeks to be completely cured
How can you control gonorrhoea?
It is an STD is spread by sexual contact, this can be controlled by a barrier (e.g condom or other means of contraception)
(Can be caused by unprotected oral sex, so you should be protected during all forms of sexual intercourse)
- If you have been diagnosed with gonorrhoea you should tell any recent partners because they might have it.
- More unlikely ways it can spread is to a baby from the mother during birth.
