B4: Bioenergetics (triple) Flashcards
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
What are the 5 main uses for glucose in a plant?
Respiration- energy form it is used to convert it into other substances
Making cellulose- to make cell walls
Making amino acids- it is combined with nitrate ions. Amino acids are made into proteins
Stored as oils or fats- turned into lipids to be stored in seeds
Stored as starch- ready for when no photosynthesis can happen
What effects the rate of photosynthesis?
Light intensity
Carbon dioxide levels
Temperature
Light intensity=
1 / distance^2
Define respiration.
The process of transferring energy form glucose, which goes on in every cell.
What are 3 uses for the energy produced in respiration?
Build up larger molecules from smaller ones
Allow muscles to contract
To keep body temperature stable in colder conditions
What is the word equation for respiration?
Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose —> lactic acid
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plants and yeast.
Glucose —> ethanol + carbon dioxide
